about district 35
State Representative District 35: Bar Harbor, Cranberry Isles, Southwest Harbor and that portion of the municipality of Mount Desert northeast of a line running along Oak Hill Road beginning at the point where it intersects with the Mount Desert-Bar Harbor boundary; then south and east along Oak Hill Road until it intersects with Main Street; then southeast along a straight line from the intersection of Oak Hill Road and Main Street to Somes Harbor; also that portion of Mount Desert on the east side of Somes Harbor and Somes Sound, from the point where Main Street and Babson Creek intersect with the Mount Desert-Bar Harbor boundary; then east to the Atlantic Ocean, and including Sheep Island and other islands that are part of Mount Desert in Somes Harbor.
The District is currently served by Representative Ted Koffman, D-Bar Harbor.
District 35 is distinguished by the natural beauty of its coastline, mountains, forests and lakes, the prominence of Acadia National Park, its historical summer and year-round communities, and its diversified economy.
Our communities are best known for boat building, fishing, and tourism. In recent years, however, our scientific and educational institutions – the Jackson Laboratory, the MDI Biological Laboratory, and College of the Atlantic – have also gained national stature and recognition. We are served by more than 100 nonprofit organizations that employ and enrich our year-round population and help make this a cultural, natural, and social mecca.
