the platform
I love living on Mount Desert Island. People here care about their schools, the quality of the environment and the community, and about one another. What we think and do locally can and will affect the whole state.
In recent years Maine has changed remarkably and our communities will continue to change in the future. I am open to new ideas and all perspectives on the issues. I am a good listener and committed to working cooperatively with Island residents to make this the place we and our children will want to live 10, 20, and 50 years down the road.
I believe in responsive, collaborative government that fosters:
economic opportunity
- Building strong communities with locally owned businesses
- Encouraging sustainable economies with working waterfronts, affordable housing, energy efficiency, and improved communication and transportation infrastructures
- Strengthening year-round businesses through support for research & development at our biological laboratories and through funding for higher education
high quality of life and environment
- Reducing Maine’s carbon emissions 80% by the year 2050
- Improving air and water quality
- Reducing toxins in the environment
education
- Working with local school committees to revise the School Consolidation Act
- Preserving local control of K-12 schooling
- Utilizing collaborative, community-based planning processes for future legislation
tax reform
- Reducing the overall tax burden on Maine Residents
- Supporting a fair, progressive tax system that focuses tax responsibilities on those most able to pay and reduces reliance on property taxes
improved access to health care
- Guaranteeing universal access to affordable health care
- Emphasizing prevention and reducing costs
