Gary has helped dozens of Maine nonprofits raise over $80 million over the last 34 years. In addition to designing and carrying out dynamic and creative fundraising campaigns, Gary has trained more than one thousand volunteers and professionals in the theory and practice of successful fundraising in seminars and workshops throughout the state. He founded Gary Friedmann & Associates in 1992 after serving as Director of Development for College of the Atlantic and Director of Operations for Maine Coast Heritage Trust. Gary is Vice Chair of the Bar Harbor Town Council, President of Maine Citizens for Clean Elections, Treasurer of Friends of Baxter State Park, and a graduate of Wesleyan University. He chairs A Climate to Thrive, the grassroots initiative to make Mount Desert Island energy independent in fifteen years.
Martha T. Dudman
Martha’s strength in marketing and promotion helps our clients get the word out about what they do. She also has strong management skills and has directed multi-million dollar campaigns for the Northeast Harbor Library and Maine Discovery Museum. Before coming to work for Gary Friedmann & Associates in 1999, Martha spent ten years as President & General Manager of Dudman Communications Corporation, a radio group in Ellsworth and Bangor. A published author, she is a director of Bar Harbor Bank & Trust, Selectman for the Town of Mount Desert, Chairman of the Northeast Harbor Library, and a graduate of Antioch College.
Heidi has worked for nonprofits for more than 30 years, as an employee, consultant and volunteer. She applies a unique breadth of experience in project coordination, writing, graphic design and education to nonprofit projects. Her specialty is creating striking and articulate publications, brochures and other printed materials. Her background as an environmental educator makes her a particularly eloquent and effective advocate for land trusts and conservation organizations. Heidi received her B.A. from Antioch College.
With over 24 years in the nonprofit world, Peter Heller has raised millions of dollars for many organizations while also strengthening their strategic and financial assets. He taught Major Gifts Fundraising in Columbia’s Fundraising Management Graduate Program, has trained fundraisers at The Foundation Center, is Co-Chair of Gotham Networking’s “Make a Difference” group, and is a member of the Nonprofit Resource Group.
Before beginning his consulting business in 2004, Peter raised major gifts for Columbia University, traveling extensively in the US and Asia. Peter has also held development positions at UC Berkeley, UC San Francisco (Associate Director of Corporate and Foundation Relations) and the American Friends of Tel Aviv University (Director of Corporations and Foundations). Peter attended Wesleyan University and earned his B.A. at College of the Atlantic.
